The Pines

At Tuross Head, south of Moruya, the College has a property with facilities to accommodate up to 100 students and parents for a number of purposes. The Pines is owned by the Christian Brothers and operated by St Edmund's College Canberra. Its primary purpose is for school camps and retreats. Special interest groups also use it for focused retreats or simply relaxing weekends. The Pines provides budget accommodation/conference facility in an idyllic setting in beautiful Tuross Head.

Tuross is used for retreats, community-building experiences, father-son camps, holiday experiences, and by various sporting teams. It is being used and further developed as an off-campus field studies centre. All boys have the experience of some time at Tuross. All years except 10 and 12 have an annual camp at the Pines as part of their studies. This time is designed to give them the experience of community living and to engage in field studies in the coastal environment. Students also attend Tuross for retreats as well as the specialised excursions.

Tuross Head is surrounded by water on three sides; with Coila Lake to the north, Tuross Lake to the south and the Pacific Ocean to the east, and the mountains to the west. The area is famous for fishing (including fresh oysters), water sports and wildlife (particularly whales and birds). Tuross Head has a thriving shopping village with nine food outlets ranging from first class restaurants to take-a-way cafes. The award winning Tuross Country Club has bowling greens and a golf course.

The Pines

The Pines, located on three acres a short stroll from Tuross Lake and the Pacific Ocean, comprises:

* the main building (once The Pines Private Hotel - the original engraved glass is still in some of the glass doors) which includes the kitchen, dinning hall, TV lounge, 11 bedrooms, toilets and showers;
* two bunkhouses (41 beds each) with their own ablution and laundry blocks;
* a recreation hall;
* basket ball court, volley ball court and sporting field;
* a small chapel; and
* the Edmond Rice Centre conference facility.

The Pines primarily caters for schools camps of up to 100, family reunions and large get togethers

A program can be developed covering a range of activities to suit individual schools needs and a range of budgets. The Pines is available for smaller catered (minium of 20) camps or small un-catered camps and retreats.

The Main Building

The main building can accommodate up to 30 guests, depending on the sleeping arrangements, in 10 rooms of 2 to 4 single beds each and one room with a double bed. All rooms have shared facilities. There are two sets of toilets and showers for both male and female in the main building.

A full set of linen (sheets, towel, doona and pillow) is provided for each bed in the main building and the bunkhouse staff rooms. Our tariff assumes that all of the guests staying in those rooms will strip and remake their beds (with the spare linen provided) prior to their departure.

The Pines operates a commercial kitchen that must be maintained in an acceptable state of cleanliness and hygiene all times and is therefore subject to random inspection by the Eurobodella Shire. While self cater groups can make use of the kitchen, it must be left in same clean state as found; otherwise an additional cleaning charge may be levied.

The dinning room can seat 80 - 100 at one sitting (depending on ages).

There is also a small TV room in the main building which can seat approximately 20 people.

The Bunk Houses

The 'Fingleton' and 'Kelly' bunkhouses can each accommodate 41. 40 in the bunk accommodation (mattress only provided) of 5 cubicles of 4 sets of double bunks and 1 in the staff bedroom of a single bed (pillow, linen and doona provided). Guests staying in the bunkhouse cubicle areas are required to bring their own bedding I.e. sleeping bag, pillow and doona/blankets and towels. Each bunkhouse has 6 showers and 3 toilets. There is also a laundry room. Any children staying in the bunkhouses must be supervised at all times. The Pines policy requires a responsible adult sleep in any bunkhouse in use, a staff room is provided for this purpose in both bunkhouses.
